Four Culture has the pleasure of working pro bono with English PEN, and in June we announced that the winner of the PEN Pinter Prize for 2018 is Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The judges praised the writer’s “refusal to be deterred or detained by the categories of others” and “her understanding of gender, race and global inequality”, both extremely prevalent topics for our times. On 9 October, Adichie will name her International Writer of Courage and give a lecture at the British Library and this year English PEN marks the tenth anniversary of the prize with a special edition hardback of all ten winner lectures – definitely one for the Christmas stocking.
As part of their work with English PEN, Four Culture are also supporting an event to mark Nelson Mandela’s centenary and the publication of a collection of his letters from prison. Celebrating Nelson Mandela: His Letters, His Legacy will be a very special evening of readings at the Union Chapel on 17 July, with Ben Okri, David Lammy, Jackie Kay and a host of others giving readings from the book. There are still a few tickets on sale here.
